Art for Eyes tells the moving story of dedicated doctors, volunteers, and artists in Haiti whose collective vision helps others to see. The film follows Eye Care board member and art collector Beverly Sullivan on one of her many trips in search of paintings to sell at auction in the states. Money raised was used to construct seven eye clinics, train Haitian doctors, and create the first laser treatment room in the Caribbean.

I have seen kids before with problems, but I was so touched by these children who had orange hair and big tummies, and it was a simple lack of vitamin A which is so easy to take care of!

You have artists seeing the world in a unique way, creating stuff we bring to America, translate it into money to go back to Haiti so the next generation can see the world and translate it into their own beauty.

Excerpts from Art for Eyes were broadcast on CBS News Sunday Morning and NBC Sunday Today in 1993. The short film was honored with a Gold CINDY Award from the Association of Visual Communicators. In 2024, Beverly and her husband John Fox Sullivan donated paintings from their remarkable Haitian art collection to the National Gallery of Art.
