Long Way Home: Building Green in Guatemala was founded to mobilize people to actively participate in the creation of innovative pathways to economic and environmental justice. The campus in the highlands of Guatemala is built entirely from upcycled materials retrieved from landfills. Students are empowered to be “change makers,” learning how used tires can become retaining walls, and “eco-bricks” fashioned from discarded plastic bottles used to build structures.

We’re constructing a learning laboratory for students that come from families with limited resources to really become the architects of their own future.

This short “behind the scenes” video was produced for presentation at fundraisers shortly after the project was underway. The school continues to evolve and thrive.
