Through My Eyes is a provocative montage of images created by, and words written by, children exposed to violence. It was designed to be a scene-setter for a 4-part series of training videos for criminal justice professionals, community practitioners, and policymakers concerned about children exposed to violence.

Sometimes if you say, ‘Draw how you feel.’ Or ‘Draw a picture of what happened to you.’ Or, even just, ‘Draw a picture of yourself or a picture of your family,” you’re going to learn so much.

One of the most important things that should come out of listening to children’s voices is that it diminishes in all of us the impulse that we have to deny that this is going on and the magnitude of what’s going on.

Any person who comes in contact with a child – the police officer, the judges, doctors, probation – has the power to make this contact be a steppingstone toward getting the help that they need.
